information about mentoring
Overview:
TBG is a valuable study tool for those seeking to leave sexual and relational brokenness in pursuit of an intimate walk with God. The material has been constructed for individual or group use. Each topic is intended to challenge the participant to grow beyond his or her own limitations and find the strength in Christ. Many people have experienced the benefits of this study and are now walking in freedom from additions, self-hatred, self-centeredness, and gender confusion. If you have been asked to be a mentor, the following page will help you understand your role in this process. If you have additional questions, please contact us. To review the process for the participant, click here.
Process and Procedure:
A mentor is required for a participant to go through this program. We consider a mentor as being someone who has experienced life a bit longer than the participant and can offer spiritual guidance, practical insight, prayer, and genuine encouragement. If you feel uncomfortable with the title "mentor" just consider the role as just being a "friend". We highly recommend it be someone of the same gender and someone that the participant already has a trusted relationship with, but open to a mentor forming a new healthy relationships with the participant. A mentor can be a parent, family member, a relative, a pastor, a counselor, or a friend.
As a mentor, you are agreeing to go through this program, lesson by lesson, with your participant. There are 21 lessons in Part One and 21 lessons in Part Two. There is at least a 5 day wait between lessons. Each lesson will have teaching video(s), teaching points and question and answer. The teachings are 30-45 minutes in length. After the teaching, your participant will be responding to questions and then you will respond to his/her entries. Responding to the partipant's entries may take anywhere between half hour to an hour each week. Maybe more, maybe less... It really depends on how much you want to share and how fast you type. So, watching the teachings and responding to the questions could take a couple hours each week.
When your participant finishes a lesson, he/she will be asked to wait at least 5 days before beginning the next lesson. These 5 days are what we call: “Be Still” (devotionals).
Scripture says, “Be still and know that I am God”, Psalm 46:10 – and “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him”, Psalm 37:7 and also “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."Exodus 14:14
During the 5 days between lessons, you and your participant will receive e-mail's each day that reflect a part of the lesson he or she just worked on. This will give you both some questions to think about, activities to consider, and prayers to speak. You are encouraged, but not required, to journal these “Be Still” items or share them with each other via e-mail or in person.
Again, your participant will need to wait 5 days AND a response from you before the participant can move on to the next lesson. So it is important that you keep in step with his/her process, so the particpant can keep going.
There is a registration process and an intake form for both Particpant and Mentor. Only the Taking Back Ground team will see your intake form, and you will see the participants intake. Mentors do not pay any fees.
If you are concerned that you won't know what to say or how to help, please know that we don't believe you need to be an expert on the issue of same-sex attractions. We will offer help along the way. You will see little icons that will give you pointers in responding to your participant. We ask that you be in agreement with our doctrinal statement and core beliefs to be a mentor on this site.
Application Pending Once you complete the intake, we will wait to hear from your participant and then connect your record to his or her record, and the program will begin for your participant.
May the Lord bless you and transform your heart and mind, as you walk along side your family member or friend. If you are ready, register by clicking the program tab above, or here and sign up as "mentor".
